La Catusse is a delightful one bedroom gîte, part of a 200 year old farm, set in a peaceful location with fantastic panoramic views.
It is a spacious, beautifully converted and recently re-furnished space to enjoy a holiday in the idyllic french countryside. It sits in an elevated position with wonderful views of the local village, Bourgougnague and the surrounding countryside. The heated pool is set within 3 walls of the old barn and is literally on your doorstep. The Gite is entered through an arched doorway directly into the generous double height, open plan, 70m2 living room/kitchen/dining area. Within the living space there is a snuggle seat, three seater sofa bed as well as a TV, DVD player and wood burner. French doors open on to a private terrace with table and chairs, plancha and stunning views over the countryside to the church in Bourgougnague. The kitchen and dining area has an electric cooker, gas hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. The bedroom (4 by 3.5m) has a kingsize bed and ample storage with a beautiful en-suite wet room that has wonderful views – if you want to leave the window open!
Set at the end of a no through road peace and tranquility are guaranteed yet it's only 4km from the pretty village of Lauzun with its selection of shops and restaurants. Miramont-de-Guyenne, (5km away), is a larger town and has numerous shops, supermarkets, bars and places to eat.
It's a lovely place to just relax and unwind, but it's also great as a base to venture east into the Dordogne to visit places like Issigeac and Monpazier. Beynac, La Roque-Gageac and Sarlat-le-Canada are a little further away but well worth a visit. You can head north/north-westwards towards the vineyards of Bergerac, Duras and Bordeaux including Saint-Émilion
Having a car is essential when staying at La Catusse with the many beautiful bastide towns within easy driving distance. Our nearest town, Lauzun has a fantastic boulangerie, a minimarket for essentials, a bar - Le Cafè de Sports and two restaurants - Gostar and Le Grand Duck. There is also an excellent cafe - The Rendevous, which can provide you with a great bacon roll or even a full english breakfast! There is a market every saturday from 9.00-12.00 selling local produce. Miramont-de-Guyenne our larger neighbour with its many bars, resaurants, cafès and shops is only a 5 minute drive, has its market day on a Monday morning. Situated in the main square once you've had a look around take a break and sit at one of the cafés with a coffee (or even better a glass of chilled rosé !) and watch french life unfold before you. It also has four supermarkets Intermarchè, Lidl, Aldi and Netto which are well stocked with a fantastic choice on offer. The popular bastide town of Eymet is another place to visit, not only for its colourful evening markets during July and August but also for some lovely restaurants.
For those of you who fancy a round of golf, Château des Vigiers, a fantastic 27 hole golf course is about 30 minutes away and there's a very welcoming 9 hole course at Tombeboeuf, about 15 minutes away.
Walking is very popular in the area with literally hundreds of choices from a short stroll to longer hikes. The local countryside with its rolling hills and agriculture, with beautiful fields of sunflowers if you come in July, makes for some wonderful easy routes. Most of them are well signposted and every local Office de Tourism will help you find the perfect walk for you.
If you are a keen cyclist then you have come to the right place - the french are mad for their vélos and they are very user friendly when it comes to cyclists. The roads are very quiet (the motorists are generally very considerate) and it's a great way to see the beautiful countryside. Again, like walking, there are many marked routes that are easy to follow, some more challenging than others, so pack your lycra and get on your bike !
